Naieva Makeup Artistry
Natural Beauty Rebirthed
The name Naieva was inspired by the French name, Naevia, which means “full of life.” Additionally, the founder wanted to incorporate her brother’s nickname, ‘Nay’ into the name of the company, in commemoration of him. Naieva, thus, is strongly centred around the values of vivaciousness and a sense of family.
If there’s one word that one could use to describe the philosophy at Naieva, it would be diversity. For a long time, the world of makeup only accounted for a cookie-cutter version of what beauty means. At Naieva, we want to participate in change. We’re here to celebrate glamour that comes in all ages, races, sizes and genders and our goal is to promote diversity and authenticity. We celebrate the people of the world who have felt excluded from the beauty industry, and we’re here to help people feel confident and gorgeous in their own skin. We believe glamour is for everyone. You are gorgeous just as you are, we are just here to enhance the beauty that you already possess! Hence, our motto, ‘Natural Beauty Rebirthed’. Come rebirth yourself.
Maxine Raquel Nunes
Lead Makeup Artist and Founder
Founder of Naieva Makeup Artistry, Maxine began her journey as a professional makeup artist during her time living in Manhattan, New York. She studied and got her makeup certification at the Academy of Freelance Makeup, an academy that trains makeup artists in both London and New York City. After graduating from the Academy of Freelance Makeup, Maxine gained experience working as a freelance artist for acting headshots and editorial photoshoots.
Thereafter, she worked as an artist for MAC Cosmetics at the Hudson Yards location on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. During her time with MAC, she further expanded her knowledge and experience with makeup. Maxine also worked at the world-famous World Trade Centre location and represented MAC Cosmetics at the World Pride Parade, hosted by New York in 2019!
Maxine then decided to return to her beautiful home of Johannesburg, South Africa and begin her own business in makeup artistry…and so Naieva was born! Maxine is currently the Lead Makeup Artist for the company and specialises in bridal, glam, headshot, editorial and on-screen makeup.
